Exciting Research News
Congratulations to Drs. Michael Jensen, Rebecca Gardner and everyone at the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Watch the video of this EXCITING and encouraging announcement that was made yesterday regarding the first patient in their re-programmed T-cell immunotherapy study.
As you may recall, we toured the lab last November and were very impressed with the exciting work that they are doing. We proudly provided them with a grant and are honored to support Ben Towne Foundation, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild Association in their great research effort.

College Student’s Research Project
A college student at Butler University is doing a research project and would like to speak with families who have faced a diagnosis of childhood cancer. Specifically, she “intends to study parents’ memories of their children’s cancer diagnoses and how they compare to parents’ memories of their children’s physical injuries. How parents remember stressful information and create narratives of their children’s diagnoses is important to the general memory theory.” If you are interested in participating in her project, please contact Alexandra Robinson-Norris at 219-309-6725 or via email at [email protected].

B+ Running “The Strip at Night”
Registration is NOW OPEN to join the B+ Running Team for the Las Vegas Marathon/Half Marathon. This is one of the cooler events in the country as you literally run down the famed Las Vegas Strip at dusk under the bright lights of the casinos on Sun. Nov. 17th. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced runner or you’ve never run in your life. This will be our 3rd Marathon/Half-Marathon following successful Hamptson (NY) Marathon and Delaware Marathon. For most of our participants, it’s not about their race time. It’s about the sense of accomplishment and feeling that you get knowing that you’re helping to cure childhood cancer and help families of kids with cancer.
The B+ Foundation covers the cost of airfare, hotel, a personal running coach, race registration, pre-race meal, B+ Running Team performance shirt, and more. What’s expected of you? Commit to raising $2,600 from your family, friends, co-workers to help us fight childhood cancer. It may sound like a lot, but we’ve got a lot of ideas to help you get to your goal. In our last two Marathons, we had several college students participate and through the power of social media and other creative ideas, they didn’t have any trouble raising the money.
Register today or contact Carly Bergstein at [email protected] to learn more about the event. Carly is a non-runner who ran the Hamptons Half-Marathon and can tell you all about her experience.

On a personal note, thank you for all the good wishes on our 30th wedding anniversary the other day. We are truly blessed not only to have each other but two great kids. What Ali wrote the other day just blew me away.
On a sad note, this Sunday, July 14th represents 6 years since our HERO, our buddy, our son, brother, and friend – Andrew John McDonough – left this world. There are truly no words to describe how much I miss him.
