Research Grant Awarded to Seattle Children’s Hospital
The B+ Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of a $60,000 grant to the Ben Towne Center for Childhood Cancer Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital. This grant will fund a piece of critical equipment related to the exciting T-cell work that is being developed by Dr. Michael Jensen and his team. As you may recall, we visited the lab in late November and are very excited about the potential of this new approach which could be an alternative to the current, and highly toxic, protocol of chemotherapy. I hope you all are equally excited and proud, because this grant comes from you. For more information on the team’s work, please click here.

1st Annual Wilmington Winter Classic
There was a nice article in yesterday’s Wilmington (DE) News-Journal about the upcoming Wilmington Winter Classic. The Winter Classic pits the Wilmington Fire Dept against the Wilmington Police Department in a charity ice hockey game to benefit The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. We are tremendously grateful for the support of the firefighters and police in raising awareness and money for our battle against childhood cancer. If you’re local, please come out and join us for a good game and a good cause. B+ Hero, Dane Johnson, will be dropping the ceremonial first puck along with the Fire Chief and Police Chief.
Time: 5:30 p.m., Sat. Jan. 5th
Location: Skating Club of Wilmington, 1301 Carruthers Lane, Wilmington, Delaware 19803.
Tickets are $5. Raffles and a silent auction will be held.
Tickets will be available at the door. For advance tickets, call Mike Cofalka at (908) 304-4366 or Griff Jordan at (302) 250-5649.

New Year’s Resolution – B+ Running Team
OK, so you’ve all made New Year’s Resolutions and many of them deal with getting in better shape. And, of course, many of these resolutions will be shot by the end of the month. 🙂
Well, we can help you keep your New Year’s Resolution. Join the B+ Running Team and run the Delaware Marathon or Half Marathon on Sun. May 12th. A key part of our running team is that you will be assigned a running coach, at no cost to you, who will develop a personalized running program for you and help keep you motivated. And, you don’t have to live in Delaware to join us. Anyone in the country can participate. For that matter, if our international supporters want to join us, we’d love to hear from you as well.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned runner or a first timer – we have both on our team. You’ll not only be getting/staying in great shape and accomplishing something amazing, but you’ll also be doing so much good for our battle against childhood cancer.
The B+ Foundation covers the costs of the running coach, race registration, pre-race dinner the night before, B+ Running Team shirt, marathon medal, after race party, and much more. To be on our team, we ask participants to raise a minimum of $2,000. We develop a fundraising website for you and past runners have found Facebook to be a great tool and employer matching gifts have helped a lot in the fundraising as well. (For out-of-town participants, we will cover transportation and lodging with a minimum fundraising commitment of $2,600.) With our last team (Hamptons Marathon), we had 12 runners do the Half Marathon and 4 ran the Full Marathon. All 16 runners exceeded their fundraising commitment with Alison Goldberg leading the way at almost $14,000! Please don’t let the fundraising goal or the training turn you off.

Here’s hoping 2013 brings new discoveries in our quest for cures for all types of childhood cancers!
