Campanella’s Auto & Tire Goes Above and Beyond AGAIN

Paul Campanella and his team did it again!  Today, Paul (pictured on the left) handed car keys over to the family of a little girl battling cancer at A.I. DuPont Hospital.  This family from New Jersey does not have a car and it has been difficult for them to get their little girl the 50 miles to the hospital.  For the second year in a row, Paul found a quality used car and spent a bunch of money fixing it up just right for the family.  Paul also offered to service their car in the future when they come over to DE for hospital appointments.

Paul is a small businessman with a big heart. http://www.campanellas.com/

Care for The Cure

Last Saturday, Ali and I traveled to West Chester Henderson High School in West Chester, PA for the 5th Annual Care for the Cure lacrosse tournament.  Care for the Cure is a tournament run by Ryan Cranston in honor of his sister-in-law, Caroline, who passed away following a battle with AML (same type of cancer that Andrew had).  Many of you will remember me writing about a brave young man named Mason Abate who was diagnosed earlier in the year with AML.  Mason is a student at Malvern Prep and I FINALLY got to meet him in person on Saturday.  I felt like I already knew Mason and his family even though I had only met one of his sisters.  Kevin Rogers, a friend of the Abates, sold tee shirts in honor of Mason with the proceeds going to The B+ Foundation.  The Care for the Cure Foundation matched their $2,500 for a total of $5,000 raised!!!  Thank you very much for including us in such a special event.

Charter School of Wilmington

Thank you to Charter School of Wilmington (CSW) for inviting me to your school-wide assembly to kick off the 2nd annual CharterThon to raise money for The B+ Foundation.  Charter was our first high school dance marathon last year and we’re looking forward to an even more successful event this year.  Thank you to everyone at Charter for helping us fight childhood cancer.  It’s looking like we’ll have about 10 high school dance marathon events this year in Delaware alone.  If you’d like to do an event at your school, locally or anywhere in the country, please contact me at [email protected].

Holiday Challenge

Probably 90% of you are going to send out dozens and dozens of holiday cards and spend a fortune on gifts this year.  I’d like to offer you a good-natured challenge with several options.

  1. Add up all of the money that you spend on cards AND postage this year and donate 46% (46 kids were diagnosed TODAY) of that total amount to The B+ Foundation to fight childhood cancer. Trust me, if you hear tomorrow that “Your child has cancer” or “Your grandchild has cancer”, I guarantee you won’t be thinking about holiday cards.

  2. Better yet, donate ALL of the money that you would have spent on cards and postage to our cause. You can say ‘hi’ and brag to your friends about your kids’ awards and your trips on social media for free! 🙂

  3. Pretend that you have one extra family member – your adopted B+ Hero who has cancer. No, we don’t buy gifts for the kids, but what if you donate the money that you would have spent on that extra family member. Pooled together, this money will help buy medicine for a child with cancer, stave off eviction, buy food, and cover necessary medical supplies to name a few things. Do you remember the story of Maris from Georgia? This little girl and her Mom were sitting on the hospital bed waiting to go home for Maris’ final days. But, she needed oxygen. The hospital wouldn’t provide it, the insurance company wouldn’t cover it, and the family couldn’t afford it. The B+ Foundation, your foundation, paid $395 so that she could have oxygen to get on the plane to go home to die. We got her home and Maris died 2 days later at the age of 8. $395! I was furious that $395 was keeping this little girl from being in her own bed during her final hours. Thanks to you, though, we got her home.

Thanks for keeping our kids in your thoughts and prayers during this holiday season.

B+
