B+ Summer Leadership Academy…and more!
B+ SUMMER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
On July 30-31st, we hosted 35 B+ partners in Wilmington, DE for our annual Summer Leadership Academy. These student leaders, from across the country, partner with us to bring successful B+ events to their campuses. This represents a subset of the 80+ schools that we work with. Among the schools represented this year were Delaware, Villanova, NYU, Harvard, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, Loyola Marymount, Northeastern, UC-Irvine, The College of New Jersey, Minnesota, LaSalle, Fordham and a few local high schools. Carly and the team run a fantastic 2 day retreat that is highlighted by hearing from B+ Hero families and spending the night with them in the picnic area at a Wilmington Blue Rocks minor league baseball game. We are so appreciative of the dedication and hard work of these amazing students!
JEFFERSON MEDICAL COLLEGE
For the 10th year or so, I was invited to speak with the first year medical students at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. I always speak during their first week of school to bring the patient family perspective to them right upfront. It’s always a great honor to play a small part in the education of these 274 future doctors. Thank you, Dr. Charlie Pohl, and everyone at Jefferson for the invitation. (As an aside, it was Jefferson where we airlifted Andrew to for his brain aneurysm on June 30, 2007.)
TRAVELING THROUGH PHL?
If your travels bring you through the City of Brotherly Love, please look for B+ electronic billboards in the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Thanks to the generosity of a donor, we are testing this advertising to see what kind of response we get from the 2 ads. Stay tuned…you may see B+ ads in other airports across the country.
GOLF? AUCTION DONOR?
On Oct. 3, 2022, we will be hosting our 16th Annual B+ Golf Outing, Dinner, and Auction. If you would like to join us for golf or dinner, please register today. If you have a cool auction package that you would like to donate, please email me at [email protected]. We appreciate your support.
MEET LUKE
While I don’t have a picture to share with you yet because we only assisted them last week, please take a moment to ‘meet’ one of the 57 families that we helped just last week.
Luke is a 2-year-old who was diagnosed with B-Cell Leukemia. Luke was admitted for about a week and started chemotherapy and will be coming in 1-2 times a week for the next 6-8 months before transitioning to monthly clinic visits in maintenance phase of treatment for the last 2 ½ years of treatment. Luke’s mom is a preschool teacher but will not be going back to work in the fall in order to care for Luke. Dad is a pharmacist but has a very high max out of pocket plan that they had to meet which caused their family financial instability. They also have 2 other boys at home, ages 10 and 6. Any assistance with their mortgage to help offset the out-of-pocket costs for meds and copays would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your continued prayers and support.
